Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps (i) a variant of tudder n. (although this is otherwise last attested in early Middle English), or perhaps (ii) a derivative of toad n. (although this presents formal difficulties, but perhaps compare the β. forms at toad n.).
Obsolete (English regional in later use).
The spawn of a frog or toad; slimy gelatinous matter.
