Origin: An imitative or expressive formation.
Etymology: Imitative of a jubilant musical cadence or flourish.Compare German Trallala (1778 or earlier), French tra-la-la (1823 or earlier; 1736 as tral-là-là), both also with the second element further reduplicated.
A vocal utterance forming a musical phrase (usually ascending) expressive of gaiety or joy; also, a cadence or flourish on a horn or similar instrument.
