Origin: A borrowing from Japanese. Etymon: Japanese toro.
Etymology: < Japanese toro (1930 or earlier), probably short for torori to (also torot-to) (adverbial phrase) (of food) melting in the mouth (1603 as tororito in Vocabulario da Lingoa de Iapam, glossed ‘way of melting’).
In Japanese cookery: the pale pink tuna meat taken from the belly of the fish near the pectoral fin, rich in fat and used esp. to make sushi or sashimi.
