Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Trafalgar.
Etymology: < the name of Cape Trafalgar on the south coast of Spain, famed for a great victory of the British fleet over the combined fleets of France and Spain on 21 Oct. 1805, in which Admiral Nelson was killed.In celebration of Nelson's victory, many streets and places in the British Isles were named after Cape Trafalgar, e.g. Trafalgar Square in London.In some specific uses, there is also a pronunciation with stress falling on the final syllable, as it does in the original Spanish.
