释义

trousiesn.

Brit. /ˈtraʊzɪz/, U.S. /ˈtraʊziz/
Forms: 1600s 1800s– trousies, 1600s– trowsies.
Origin: Partly formed within English, by clipping or shortening. Perhaps also partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: trousers n., -y suffix6; trouse n.2, -s.
Etymology: Partly shortened < trousers n. (compare -y suffix6). Probably partly also (especially in Scottish use) a variant of trouses , plural form of trouse n.2 (compare discussion in quot. 1913). Chiefly regional or colloquial, and in representations of nonstandard speech.
Trousers (in various senses). In early use: spec. breeches or trews.
