Etymology: < the name of A. Trousseau (1801–67), French physician, who described the sign in 1862 ( Clin. Med. de l'Hôtel-Dieu de Paris II. xliv. 113).
Medicine.
Trousseau's sign: spasm of a muscle evoked by pressure on the nerve supplying it, as seen in cases of tetany.
