Etymology: < scholastic Latin transaccidentātio (Duns Scotus: the attribution to P. Lombardus in Marbeck is a mistake due to confounding commentary with text); after transubstāntiātio.
A transmutation of the accidents of the bread and wine in the Eucharist, as distinguished from transubstantiation, in which the substance alone is changed.
