1936 Discovery July 224/2 The Trautonium, due to Dr. Trautwein and developed at the Charlottenburg Music High School (Conservatoire), where it so interested Hindemith that he not only wrote for it but even himself learnt to play it.

1959 Chambers's Encycl. V. 131/2 Instruments such as the theremin and the trautonium derive music directly from the tuned circuits in oscillation and have no mechanical vibrator except the diaphragm in the loud-speaker.

1978 P. Griffiths Conc. Hist. Mod. Music viii. 111 Hindemith wrote a concertino for trautonium and orchestra in 1931.
