Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: trans- prefix, Latin ischiacus.
Etymology: < trans- prefix + post-classical Latin ischiacus of or relating to the hips (1572 or earlier; already in classical Latin as noun, denoting a person suffering from gout) < Hellenistic Greek ἰσχιακός < ancient Greek ἰσχίον hip joint (see ischium n.) + -ακός -ac suffix.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
Extending from one ischium (bone of the pelvis) to the other.
