Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: tropho- comb. form, Greek ἄλλαξις.
Etymology: < tropho- comb. form + ancient Greek ἄλλαξις exchange (see morphallaxis n.).
Entomology.
The exchange of liquid material from the digestive tract among members of a colony of social insects.Such exchange typically occurs between adults and larvae or between adults.
