Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek τροϕή , aesthesia n.
Etymology: < ancient Greek τροϕή nourishment (see tropho- comb. form) + -sia (in aesthesia n.). In β. forms with remodelling of the ending after -sy suffix1. Compare earlier trophoneurosis n. at tropho- comb. form 1.
Medicine. rare. Now disused.
Esp. in the terminology of T. Laycock: any of a group of diseases of neural or cerebral origin believed to affect the nutrition of tissues, esp. by reducing their blood supply.
