Etymology: < tropo- (in tropospheric adj.) + scatter n.
The practice of transmitting radio signals into the troposphere where they are scattered by clouds and local atmospheric variations; radio transmission and reception by such means. Frequently attributive.Advantages of troposcatter include difficulty in intercepting the radio signals and their longer range (compared with line-of-sight transmission).
