Etymology: modern Latin (Da Costa 1776), < Greek τρίδακνος eaten at three bites, < τρι- tri- comb. form + δάκνειν to bite.
Zoology.
A genus of bivalve molluscs, including the Tridacna gigas or Giant Clam, the largest bivalve shell known. Also attributive.
