1. Separated from the dross or refuse; of metals: purified, refined; of fat: rendered, clarified; of an egg-yolk: separated from the white; of flour, etc.: sifted, bolted, fine. Mostly Obsolete. tried out, said of a whale the blubber of which has been cut off, melted down, and run into casks.
