Etymology: < medieval Latin trītōrium, < Latin trīt- , participial stem of terĕre to rub, thresh: see -ory suffix1. Compare Ælfric's Vocab. (Wright-Wülcker 107/2), ‘Trītōrium , þerscel’, threshel n. a threshing-instrument, a flail, which separates the grain from the straw and chaff.
Obsolete. rare.
A vessel for separating liquids of different densities.
