Etymology: < trouser, singular of trousers n. (compare β. forms at that entry). With sense 1 compare earlier pocket v. 1. With sense 2 compare earlier trousered adj. and trousering n.
1. transitive. Chiefly British colloquial. To put (money, etc.) into one's trouser pocket; (hence figurative) to receive, accept, or take (something, esp. money) for oneself, often in a manner regarded as dishonest or morally dubious. Cf. pocket v. 1.Recorded earliest in representations of American speech by British writers.
