Etymology: < brewsterlin(e + -ite suffix1; Dana originally used brewsterline , < the name of the Scottish physicist Sir David Brewster (1781–1868), who first described the liquid in 1823 + -line , probably representing Latin oleum oil + -in suffix1 (as in cryptoline n.); this he changed to brewstoline and then to brewsterlinite.
Mineralogy.
A transparent liquid of uncertain composition found in inclusions in certain minerals.
