Etymology: < the name of Mitsuo Tsukahara (b. 1947), Japanese gymnast, who introduced the vault in international competition in 1970.
Gymnastics.
A vault consisting of a quarter- or half-turn on to the horse, followed by one and a half somersaults off. Also attributive.

1972 M. Warren New Bk. Gymnastics iii. 52 By increasing the speed and bringing the board in closer it was found that the gymnast could strike the horse at a lower angle and get a higher second flight, an essential for a one-and-a-half back somersault off (the Tsukahara vault).
