Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin turba , -in- , -acious suffix.
Etymology: Irregularly < post-classical Latin turba turf, peat (see turf n.1) + -in- + -acious suffix, apparently by confusion with < classical Latin turbin- , turbo whirlwind, spinning top (see turbo n. and compare turbinaceous adj.1).
Obsolete.
Pertaining to peat; peaty; flavoured with peat-smoke.
