Etymology: < un- prefix2 + liken v., in quot. a1382 after classical Latin dissimulāre to make dissimilar, to disguise (see dissimule v.).Compare Middle Dutch ontlīkenen (reflexive) to disguise oneself, and Middle Dutch ontlīken to make dissimilar (early modern Dutch ontleken).
Obsolete.
transitive. To make unlike or dissimilar to; to cause not to resemble. Chiefly in past participle. Cf. liken v. 3.

transitive (in passive). To view or describe (something) as being unlike something else; to compare (one thing) to another and find them to be dissimilar. Often contrasted with liken.
