Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French tuberculisation.
Etymology: < French tuberculisation formation or development of tubercles (1805 or earlier; in later use also in sense ‘infection with tubercle bacilli’) < tubercule tubercle n. + -isation -ization suffix. Compare slightly earlier tuberculation n. 2.
Originally: the formation or development of tubercles, spec. those of tuberculosis. In later use also: infection with tubercle bacilli; resistance to tuberculosis, esp. on a (supposed) racial or genetic basis (now historical).
