1925 Mineral Abstr. II. 397 Around Borzhom in Georgia, the dislocated Eocene sediments (calcareous sandstones, sandstones, and tuffites) are intruded by dikes and sills of diabase and diabase-porphyrite, and partly covered by andesitic flows.
1932 Bull. Nat. Res. Council (U.S.) lxxxix. ii. 42 Rocks composed of a mixture of pyroclastic and sedimentary material, especially ash and sediment, were defined by Mügge as tuffite, while metamorphosed tuffs were referred to as tuffoide. Tuffite, as far as the writers are aware, has never been adopted outside Germany, and tuffoide has already been shown to be illegitimate on grounds of priority.
