Origin: A borrowing from Latin; partly modelled on a Spanish lexical item. Etymons: Latin ubication-, ubicatio.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin ubication-, ubicatio location, position (14th cent. in British sources) < ubicat- , past participial stem of ubicare to situate (14th cent. in British sources; < classical Latin ubi where (see ubi n.) + -icāre , verbal suffix) + classical Latin -iō -ion suffix1. In later use frequently after Spanish ubicación (1690). Compare earlier ubity n.
Now somewhat rare.
The fact or condition of occupying a certain place or position; the place in which a person or thing is; location. Also: a location. Cf. ubiety n.Now chiefly in Spanish-speaking contexts.
