Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Bund.
Etymology: < German Bund ring-shaped cake (1860 or earlier), spec. use of Bund turban (itself a spec. use of Bund something joined, union: see Bund n.2), with allusion to the shape of the cake. Compare Dutch tulband ring-shaped cake (1769 or earlier), spec. use of tulband turban (see turban n.).
North American. Cookery.
1. More fully Bundt cake, Bundt kuchen. A type of ring-shaped tea cake (usually leavened with yeast) of Austrian or German origin, baked in a decorative, often fluted, mould; cf. kugelhupf n. Also (esp. in later use): any cake made using the same type of mould (cf. sense 2).
