Origin: An imitative or expressive formation.
Etymology: Imitative. Compare slightly later twit int. and -le suffix 3. Compare later tweedle v.1 and tweetle v.
Chiefly poetic.
intransitive. Of a bird: to chirrup, warble, twitter; to sing. Also occasionally transitive: to produce (a note or song) by chirruping or warbling.
