单词 uncape
释义

uncapev.

Forms: 1600s vncape.
Origin: Probably a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: English *uncoop ; escape v.
Etymology: Probably a misprint for either *uncoop ( < un- prefix2 + coop v.1) or perhaps escape v.Many other emendations to verbs formed with un- prefix2 have been suggested, but all of them are unconvincing. For a summary of major suggestions see the notes in the Oxford Shakespeare edition (ed. T. W. Craik, 1990); Craik notes that the emendation to escape v. was first explicitly adopted by G. R. Hibbard ( New Penguin Shakespeare, 1973). The emendation to *uncoop is adopted by the New Oxford Shakespeare (ed. G. Taylor et al., 2017).
Obsolete. rare.
(Of obscure meaning.)The interpretations ‘to unbag’ or ‘to uncouple’ are not supported by any evidence.
