Perhaps: to deprive of manners.The word first appears in the 1621 edition of Samuel Daniel's The collection of the history of England, and is consistently repeated in subsequent editions, including that of Grosart, published in 1896 and cited by N.E.D. (1924). The word is not recorded elsewhere. In the first edition of 1618 the reading is vnmannes (see unman v.).
