unprovidentadj.

Brit. /(ˌ)ʌnˈprɒvᵻd(ə)nt/, U.S. /ˌənˈprɑvəd(ə)nt/
Forms: 1500s vnprouydent, 1500s–1600s vnprouident, 1500s–1600s vnprovident, 1500s– unprovident.
Origin: Probably partly a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: unprovided adj.; un- prefix1, provident adj.
Etymology: In sense 1 probably an alteration (after the rhyming diligent adj.) of unprovided adj. (compare unprovided adj. 2); provident adj. is not attested in a sense ‘for which provision has been made’. In sense 2 independently < un- prefix1 + provident adj.
Now rare.
1. For which no provision has been (or can be) made; unforeseen. Cf. unprovided adj. 2. Obsolete.
