单词 bungo
释义

bungon.

/ˈbʌŋɡəʊ/
Inflections: Plural bungoes, bungos.
Forms: 1800s– bungo, 1800s– bongo.
Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish bongo.
Etymology: < American Spanish bongo (1748 in a South American context, or earlier), probably < an African language (see note).Compare Jamaican English bungy (1788 as bungay), perhaps an alteration or derivative of this word. Further etymology. It has been suggested that the African etymon comes from a subgroup of Bantu languages spoken in Gabon and adjacent areas, e.g. Nzebi mbungu, Tsogo mboŋgo, denoting kinds of small wooden boat. An alternative suggestion cites the unrelated Hausa (Sokoto) bungu-bungu, small boat made from a particular type of palm wood, although Hausa seems less likely as the language of origin, as it is spoken in a different part of Africa (further inland).
A kind of boat used in the Southern States and in Central America.
