Etymology: < un- prefix2 + round v.2, originally after French †desrondir (see disround v.). Compare earlier disround v.Compare Dutch ontronden (first half of the 17th cent. or earlier (see quot. 1648); rare before the 20th cent.), German entrunden (1693; rare before the second half of the 19th cent.; 1885 or earlier in phonetics, chiefly in past participle entrundet).
transitive. To make (something) no longer round. In later use spec. (in Phonetics): to reduce or eliminate the rounding of the lips when enunciating (a sound, esp. a vowel).
