Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin Urania , -id suffix3.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Urania, genus name (J. C. Fabricius 1807, in Magazin f. Insektenkunde 6 279) + -id suffix3, after Uraniidae, family name ( J. O. Westwood Introd. Mod. Classsif. Insects (1840) II. 364).

Of or relating to the family Uraniidae of tropical moths, many of which are large, brightly coloured, and diurnal.
