Etymology: < up- prefix + cycle v.1, after recycle v.Compare German upcyceln (1994 or earlier; also upcyclen ), and also earlier Upcycling upcycling n.
transitive. To reuse (waste material) to create a product of higher quality or value than the original, and to reduce the need for new raw materials in production; (more generally) to repurpose, renovate, or improve (an old or unwanted item) to make something more attractive, valuable, etc.Popularized by William McDonough and Michael Braungart in their 2002 book, Cradle to Cradle.
