Etymology: In 17th cent. < Italian bullettino , bollettino diminutive of bulletta = bullet n.1; but the modern word (senses 2, 3), first recorded in latter half of 18th cent., appears to be < French bulletin. See also this earlier use of the Italian word:1645 J. Evelyn Mem. (1819) I. 181 We went now towards Ferrara, carrying with us a Bulletino or bill of health.
