Etymology: < French uranoscope, †ouranoscope (1584 in Middle French) and its etymon classical Latin ūranoscopos (see uranoscopus n.). Compare Italian uranoscopo (a1327). Compare earlier uranoscopus n.
Zoology. Now rare.
A stargazer fish of the family Uranoscopidae; = stargazer n. 2a. Cf. uranoscopus n.
