Etymology: < classical Latin Acidulae, plural of Acidula, name of a spring near Teanum Sidicinum (modern Teano) in northern Campania in Italy (Pliny), use as name (short for aqua acidula sour water) of feminine of acidulus slightly sour (see acidulous adj.).Pliny also uses classical Latin acidula of a spring with similar properties in the region of Lyncestis in Macedonia (also described by a number of other ancient authors), but it is not clear whether the word is to be understood as a proper name in this case.

Now rare.
