Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin vāgīnula.
Etymology: < classical Latin vāgīnula sheath-like covering (applied by Pliny to a husk) < vāgīna vagina n. + -ula -ula suffix. In sense 2 < scientific Latin vaginula (1782 in this sense). Compare later vaginule n.
1. Anatomy and Zoology. A small sheath-like or sac-like structure, esp. in a membrane. Obsolete.
