Etymology: Latin, < ventri- , venter belly + loquī to speak, after Greek ἐγγαστρίμῡθος. Compare ventriloque n. and adj.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: venˈtriloquus.
Obsolete.
A ventriloquist (esp. in the original sense). The feminine ventriloqua (plural -loquæ) is employed by R. Scot Discov. Witchcr. (1584) vii. i. 126 and xiii. 150.
