A man given to or characterized by riotous, thuggish, and threatening behaviour; a braggart, a hector (Hector n. 2); spec. a dandyish man who behaves in this way. Cf. bully n.1 3.Often used to describe groups of disorderly and aggressive young men frequenting the streets of London in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
