Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin verbēna.
Etymology: < classical Latin verbēna verbena n. Compare earlier berbine n., verbena n., and vervain n.
1. Originally: common vervain, Verbena officinalis. In later use: any plant of the genus Verbena or (more widely) the family Verbenaceae. Now rare.
