Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin verbigerāt-, verbigerāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin verbigerāt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of verbigerāre to talk, chat < verbi- , verbum word (see verb n.) + gerere to conduct, carry on (see gerent adj.). With sense 2 compare earlier verbigeration n.
1. intransitive and transitive. To talk or talk about. Obsolete. rare.Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.

2. intransitive. Medicine. To repeat a sound, word, or phrase persistently, esp. as a sign of a psychiatric or neurological disorder. Also transitive with direct speech as object. Cf. verbigeration n.
