Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French verbosité; Latin verbositas.
Etymology: < (i) Middle French (French) verbosité the quality of being verbose (c1495), or its etymon (ii) post-classical Latin verbositas extensive use of words, wordiness (4th cent.) < classical Latin verbōsus verbose adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix).Compare Spanish verbosidad (1561), Portuguese verbosidade (1686), Italian verbosità (14th cent.).
