Etymology: Shortened < verbum sapienti phr., or its etymon post-classical Latin verbum sapienti sat est ‘a word is sufficient to a wise person’ (see verbum sapienti phr.). Compare earlier verb sap phr.
Now somewhat rare.
Used in place of making or concluding a full statement or explanation of something; = verb sap phr. Cf. verbum sat phr.
