Etymology: < Latin viātor, < via way. Compare obsolete French viateur, Italian viatore, Spanish viador.
A traveller, a wayfarer. The ancient Roman sense of ‘court-officer, apparitor’ is given in various dictionaries from Chambers (1728) onwards.
