Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Old French verite, veritet (modern French vérité , = Italian verità , Provençal veritat , vertat , verdad , Spanish verdad , Portuguese verdade ) < Latin vēritāt- , vēritās , < vērus true, very adj.: see -ity suffix. Apparently not in common use in the 18th cent., but revived in the 19th.
