Etymology: < medieval Latin vermiformis (whence French vermiforme , Italian vermiforme , Spanish vermiforme , Portuguese vermiforme ), < Latin vermis worm: see -form comb. form2. Compare vermes n. and vermis n.Vermiformal is used by Urquhart Rabelais (1653) ii. xiii, translating French vermiforme.
