1891 R. Wallace Rural Econ. Austral. & N.Z. xxvii. 359 The Vermont Merino..is one of the most perfect as regards good covering and density of fleece.
1957 New Biol. 22 92 Vermont merinos were imported into Australia from the United States in the 1880s. These sheep had wrinkly skins, and many that crossed the Pacific by 1890 presented a concertina-like appearance.
