1. intransitive. To voice one's opinion as a member of the public, or as representing the views of the general public, (in early use) spec. by writing a letter to a newspaper. Now somewhat rare.

2. transitive. Of a journalist, presenter, etc.: to interview (a member of the public), typically briefly and without prearrangement, in order to gauge public opinion on a current issue. Cf. vox pop n. 2b.In quot. 1936 with reference to an interview of this kind conducted for a radio programme entitled Vox Pop.
