Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French voici.
Etymology: < French voici (14th cent. in Middle French as vechi , vezcy ) < Old French veiz ci < veiz , 2nd singular present indicative of veoir to see (see view n.) + ci here ( < post-classical Latin ecce hic (4th cent.) < classical Latin ecce behold! (see ecce int.) + hīc here: see hic jacet n.).
With complement: here is, are, etc. Without complement: here it is!
