An incorrect spelling of burhriht ‘borough-right,’ in Domesday (Taunton). In Domesday there are several instances of st for Old English ht, as in radchenistres for rádcnihtas. Spelman conjectured that it might be = burgh-breche n. at borough n. Compounds 1 burglary, and the word appears with erroneous explanation in many Law dictionaries.
