Etymology: < Old French vausoir (wau- ), vaussoir, vossoir, etc., modern French voussoir < popular Latin *volsōrium , < *volsum , past participle of Latin volvĕre to turn: compare vousing n. Found in Middle English, but in modern use apparently reintroduced in the 18th cent.
One of the stones which form part of an arch or a vault, usually having the sides slightly inclined towards each other.
